How to Put Videos Together Online

Whether you want to create a short film, an instructional video, a highlight reel, or a music video, often, you need to combine several clips together.

Unfortunately, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, and all popular video platforms don’t provide any way to do this. That means you have to edit the video before uploading it to any of those platforms.

You may think that you need to download a video editing app that takes up a lot of storage, or use a complex, high-powered editing software just to make small, simple edits like this.

But you have a better option!

In this article, we'll share how easy it is to combine your video clips using a free online tool called Kapwing. With Kapwing, you can enjoy the functionality of a high-powered video editor without downloading any big apps or expensive software.

Bonus: Kapwing works on computers, phones, and tablets, so you can create and edit all your videos on the go!

To combine several video clips into one awesome final project, follow these four simple steps:

  1. Find the Videos You Want to Put Together
  2. Upload Your Videos to Kapwing
  3. Arrange & Edit Your Videos
  4. Publish & Download!

Step 1: Find the Videos You Want to Put Together

First, make sure you know where to access the videos you'll be using.

If you recorded the videos yourself, or have them downloaded on your device, make sure you can find them in your file browser. Depending on how you got the videos, they could be located on your desktop, in your downloads, your photos app, or even your documents folder.

If you want to combine videos you found online, just copy their links! You can use videos from Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, and pretty much any major video sharing platform on the internet. Just right-click on a video while it’s playing and select “Copy Link" to import them into Kapwing.

The same is true for videos you have saved in a cloud service. If your files are saved in Google Drive, for instance, there's no need to download to your device before uploading to Kapwing. Just get the link to the video then import into Kapwing.

Uploading your videos to Kapwing is just as easy!

First, go to and click “Get Started.” This will take you to the Kapwing Studio, where you can use all of Kapwing’s photo and video editing tools in one convenient place.

To upload a video from your computer, phone, or tablet, you can select the button that says “Click to upload” and find the file you want to edit in your file browser. You can also find the video in your file browser and drag & drop it into the Studio window.

And if you want to upload a video you found online, click on the input box that says “Paste an image or video URL.” Now, right click (or just tap once more on a phone or tablet) on the field and select “Paste.” Kapwing will work its magic and import your video to the Studio.

After uploading, both videos will appear in the timeline below the canvas.

Step 3: Arrange & Edit Your Videos

Now that all your videos are uploaded to the Studio, you can begin to edit your final project. Drag the video that you want to appear second after the first video in the timeline. Once you've moved both videos onto the same track, the videos will play one after the other.
