Google Slides make presenting information simple. One way to take your presentation game to the next level: add video. Lucky for you, Google can embed videos in a few clicks using their existing products, YouTube and Drive.
On the other hand, you can’t edit these videos using Google Slides tools. That’s where Kapwing comes in. Kapwing allows you to open YouTube videos or upload videos from Drive, edit them fast and get back to your presentation.
In this article, I’ll show you how to embed videos using YouTube or Google Drive. Also, you'll learn how to start with Kapwing if you’re looking to make the perfect slideshow video. Let’s get started.
Embed a YouTube video
First, on your slide, click ‘Insert’ in the top left and choose video. Then, search for your video by name or paste the specific video URL in the box. After you hit select, your video will pop up to be placed wherever you choose.
If you need to edit the video to make it shorter or add some creative flare, open the Kapwing Studio and paste the YouTube video URL in the box.
Kapwing is a free, web-based app so that means it works on every device and you don’t need an account to get started. Check out this article about editing videos with Kapwing to learn more.
Once your video is edited, upload to your YouTube account (make it private if you want) and repeat the steps we just covered.
Embed a video from Google Drive
First, on your slide, click ‘Insert’ in the top left and choose video. Then, select Google Drive and choose your video or search it by name. After you hit select, your video will pop up to be placed wherever you choose.
Again, you can edit the video to make it suitable for your slideshow with Kapwing. Open the Kapwing Studio and upload the file found in your Google Drive. You might have to download the video from your drive to be able to upload to Kapwing.

Once your video is edited, upload it back to your Google Drive and repeat the steps we just covered.
Google makes embedding video so easy with their existing tools. However, if you want to customize your video to suit a slideshow, you’ll need an editor like Kapwing. Luckily, this editor makes video creation just as easy -- maybe Kapwing’s ex-Google founders had some insight into simplicity!
