In the digital age, scaling images online is an essential task for anyone creating media. If you don’t have licensed software, online editors can be confusing to figure out.

Scaling images online should be easy, intuitive and only take a few clicks. However, most editors are the opposite. Luckily, Kapwing’s free image editor provides the experience you’ve been looking for. Not to mention, it’s the type of solution where you can save your work and come back.

Scale your image with Kapwing in just a few steps:

  1. Upload your image
  2. Change the dimensions
  3. Publish and download

1. Upload your image

First, open the Kapwing Studio and upload your image. You can search your photos, drag the file or paste the image URL into the lower box.

Kapwing is a free, web-based app so that means it works on every device and you don’t need an account to get started.

2. Change the dimensions

Now, make sure your image is deselected and click ‘Custom Size’ on the top right of the tool bar. Enter the exact width and height for your new image. Minimum size for images is 10px and maximum size is 3000px.

If you don’t want the background, choose ‘No color’ under ‘Background Color’ on the bottom right -- it’s a checkered circle with a red slash.

Also, you can change the dimensions by selecting different aspect ratios under ‘Output Size’ on the top right.

Kapwing makes it easy to add overlays and scale them onto your existing image. For this example, I added a crown emoji. Click text, images or shapes to add an overlay. Check out this group of resources on overlays to learn more.

3. Publish and download

When you’re done, click ‘Publish’ in the top right and wait for it to process. Finally, you can download your new image or publish to social media.

Next time you need to edit an image, Kapwing has your back. Not to mention, the countless other ways Kapwing makes creating online content easy.
