GIFs give you a fun way to express emotions with short, looping clips. You’ve seen the viral GIFs all over the internet, but now you want to make your own. But, how do you do that on an Android?
Whether it’s clips from movies and shows or just a video made on your phone, you’ll need an editor to make your moment into a proper GIF. Luckily, Kapwing’s free online editor gives you every tool to customize your GIF exactly how you want. Not to mention, you can open it from your Android browser, no downloads. Here’s how:
- Upload a video
- Edit the clip
- Publish your GIF
1. Upload a video
First, open the Kapwing Studio in your browser and upload your video. Upload videos made on your phone or paste the link for existing videos from sites like YouTube. Once it’s uploaded, click ‘Edit background’ and set the output size to ‘1:1’.
Kapwing is a web-based app so you can edit your GIF from any device anywhere.
2. Edit the clip
Now, turn your video into a fun, bite-sized GIF. To trim or cut video, click the video and tap ‘Edit video’. Find the perfect moment for your GIF, cut out the rest and click done.
Since GIFs are silent, add text to give context for what’s happening. Click ‘Text’, add a short message and edit with the button above. Check out this article about how to edit with Kapwing to learn more.
Tip: make your GIF short so that it communicates one idea, fast.
3. Publish your GIF
When you’re done, scroll through the top toolbar and open ‘Settings’. Change the output file to ‘GIF’ and exit the menu. Finally, hit ‘Publish’ and wait for processing. You can download the GIF to your phone or share directly on social media.
Now that you have a custom GIF, you can text it to friends, send it as a reaction or upload to social media for everyone to enjoy! That’s just one way Kapwing makes creativity easy.
