Using GIFs can often be a witty way to respond to comments or direct messages – some bloggers even create entire blog posts made out of nothing but GIFs.

Creating and editing them is even better: you get to pick the GIFs you already like, then modify them however you want. Using an online GIF editor, this can be an easy task. In the Kapwing Studio, you can add emojis to your GIF, rotate it, resize it, crop it,  or even add audio to it.

Here's how you can get started:

1.     Find the GIF you want and either download it or simply copy the URL

2.     Upload the GIF or paste the link in the Kapwing Video Editor

3.     Customize and edit your GIF

4.     Publish and enjoy!

1. Find Your GIF

Using popular sites like Giphy, find the GIF you want to edit. You can browse by any category, whether it’s an emotion, a person, a topic, or an object; simply enter what you’re looking for in the search field and see what comes up. Or, wait until step 2 and upload your GIF directly to the editor.

Alternatively, you can upload videos to the Kapwing Studio from your phone, YouTube, Tiktok, Instagram, and nearly any social media platform, then export them as high quality GIF files.

2. Upload the GIF or Paste the URL to the GIF Editor

Once you’ve picked out your GIF, head over to Kapwing.com in your browser and click Start Editing to enter the Kapwing Studio. Here, upload the GIF you saved or copy and paste its URL. You can also select Images in the top toolbar and search Google for any GIF you want to use – for mine I typed "Drake Hands GIF."

3. Customize and Edit Your GIF

Once the GIF is uploaded, you can start editing it. You can add images, text, emojis, or even paste another GIF over it.

With GIFs in particular, you might want to add meme-style text above or below your GIF. To do this, click outside of the canvas and click the Top or Bottom buttons under "Expand Padding" in the right-hand toolbar. Then, select Text in the top toolbar and enter your meme text. Using the tools on the right, you can change your text's font, color, outline, size, position, drop shadow, and even animation style.

4.     Publish and Enjoy

Now that your GIF is ready to go, go over to the right-hand corner and click Settings. Here, set the Output File to GIF. Select Export GIF, give Kapwing a couple seconds to process your project, then click Download to save your GIF straight to your device.
