Instagram isn’t just about pictures, as videos have quickly become a huge part of the social media platform. It’s a unique kind of video platform, as well and requires some specific editing in order to make your videos really shine.
Despite Instagram being a mobile app, you don’t have to rely on editing your video on your phone, which can be a painful and messy experience. As long as you get the video to fit the right specifications, you can edit it on your computer and import it onto your phone using Kapwing. Here's how to get started:
1. Edit and Export Video on Kapwing
2. Download Video
3. Upload to Instagram
Step One: Edit Video on Kapwing
Head over to Kapwing.com, select Start Editing, and you will see the two options for uploading a video: Upload and Paste a URL.
Upload will let you find a file from your computer or phone and import it into the editing studio, and Paste a URL will let you take a video from anywhere online and edit it.
Whichever option you choose, you can bring your video into the Kapwing Studio. Now, there are plenty of things that you can do to your video in Kapwing, from adding text and music, to implementing certain effects and subtitles. For Instagram, there are certain things you are going to want to make sure your video meets certain requirements. This is mostly about the video’s dimensions, but there are some things to keep in mind:
- Videos cannot be longer than 60 seconds
- The file size cannot be more than 4GB.
- Vertical video: 600 x 750
- Square video: 600 x 600
- Landscape video: 600 x 315
- Carousel video: 600 x 600
In order to get your video to these specifications, look to the right of the screen, where you will see the Output Size option.
You will see a few presets for you to choose, but you will want to click on Custom Size. This will open up a new window where you will see two windows where you can enter the specific Width and Height for your video.
Whichever video you are making, be sure to enter the dimensions mentioned above and click on Done.
Once your video is where it needs to be, look to the top-right corner of the screen to select Export Video. Fortunately, Kapwing automatically exports your video as an MP4, which is the main file format that Instagram supports.
Your video will begin processing, and you can track its progress while Kapwing works. Once it is done, you'll be ready to
Step Two: Download Video
One of the best parts of Kapwing is that you can access the site, and everything you make on it, from your phone. If you edited the video on your phone to begin with, you'll be able to use the Download button to save it to your camera roll or browser download, or the Instagram button to share it directly to Instagram.
In almost any mobile browser, on any device, your video will be downloaded straight to your phone, but if you're using Chrome for iOS, you'll need to download the very small Kapwing mobile app from the App Store, which will allow you to save your Kapwing videos to your camera roll.
Step Three: Upload to Instagram
You can now head to the Instagram app. Look to the top-left corner of your screen to see the camera icon. Select it and then tap on Select on the bottom of the screen.
This will take you to the screen to choose whichever video or photo you want to upload to your Instagram. In your photo library, find the video you just downloaded from Kapwing and select it. It will upload the video and take you to the area where you can add different filters and captions to the video.
As you keep choosing what you want, just select Next until you reach the end where you can choose Share. This will send the video to your Instagram, ready to be seen by all of your followers.
