The lasso for editing images online can be great, but not if you just need to delete something, and be done with it. The lasso tool requires you to outline an object and fool with inverting selections to remove what you want.

There’s two solutions to this: a manual eraser and an eraser that does the work for you. Luckily, Kapwing’s editing studio has both. And, they’re so simple to use, a kindergartner can remove the background. Follow these simple steps and I’ll show you exactly how it works:

  1. Upload your image
  2. Erase the background
  3. Download your edit

1. Upload your image

First, open’s Kapwing’s ‘Remove Background From Image’ tool and upload your image. This tool works on any device and requires no download, so get started!

2. Erase the background

Now, Kapwing gives you two options for removing the background: the ‘Magic Wand’ and the ‘Eraser’. The Magic Wand will delete areas of similar color. You can adjust the sensitivity to select a broader area (shift to the left) or more limited area (shift to the right). See how it works below.

On the other hand, the ‘Eraser’ gives you full control over what you delete. Slide the handle to the left for a bigger eraser or right for a smaller one. Check out the example below (GIF made with Kapwing).

If you want to erase down to the pixel, you can do that. Use the zoom tool in the top right and increase the percentage. Now, select a smaller eraser size and follow the edge of your desired cut out.

The more you zoom in, the easier it is to erase that exact pixel. Also, don’t be afraid to experiment and use the undo option if you mess up.

3. Download your edit

Once you’re satisfied, click ‘DONE’ in the bottom right then ‘Export Image’ from the top right. After your image processes, click ‘Download’ and you’re set!
