When you’re working from home as often as I am, staring at a default home screen wallpaper can start to get a little boring. Your home screen wallpaper should be exciting, full of character, and reflect your interests. In this tutorial, I’m going to go over everything you need to know from home screen wallpaper dimensions to creating your very own home screen wallpaper on any device in Kapwing. Let's get started!
- Brainstorm Home Screen Wallpaper Ideas
- Open Kapwing Studio
- Adjust Image and Canvas Output Size
- (Optional) Add Text and Shapes to Your Wallpaper
- Export, Download, and Set Up Home Screen Wallpaper
Step One: Brainstorm Home Screen Wallpaper Ideas
The perfect wallpaper for your smartphone or desktop is a Google or Pinterest search away. You can find wallpapers with inspirational or motivational quotes, cartoons, emojis, nature, and more. I personally like the combination of minimalism and inspirational quotes so I’m going to create something similar today.
After brainstorming some ideas, make a note that the standard proportions are 9:16 for smartphones. With laptops and desktops, home screen sizes may vary, but you can use 16:9. You can do a quick Google search with your computer’s model or go into your computer settings and find the display dimensions.
Step Two: Open Kapwing Studio
In your browser, head over to the Kapwing Studio. On this page, you can Get Started with a blank canvas, upload your own image from your smartphone or desktop, or paste an image URL. For this tutorial, I’ll be working on a desktop and creating a home screen wallpaper for both a desktop and a smartphone. I’m going to select Get Started and search for an image within the Kapwing Studio.
Step Three: Adjust Image and Canvas Output Size
Once you have entered the Kapwing Studio, you should be able to edit the canvas output size. On the right-hand side, select 16:9 to create a home screen wallpaper for your desktop, or select 9:16 to create a home screen wallpaper for your smartphone.
In the above toolbar, you have the option to add text, images, elements such as shapes, or use a plugin. For my main photo, I’m going to find a cup of coffee. To do this, I can go to Images and search “coffee” or I can use Plugins to search for free assets and photos on Unsplash, Pexels, or Pixabay instead of downloading these images from external websites.
(Optional) Step Four: Add Text and Shapes to Your Wallpaper
Adding text and shapes is what makes your home screen wallpaper unique to you. Locate the text option in the toolbar and enter a quote or phrase that you like. I’m using “It’s going to be a good day”. On the right-hand side, you have text editing options such as font type, size, color, and outlines.
The Elements tool will bring up shape options such as squares, circles, lines, arrows, triangles, stars, and more! I decided to add stars and a square across my entire wallpaper.
Step Five: Export, Download, and Set Up Home Screen Wallpaper
On the top right corner, select Export Image, then Download on the next screen.
