How to Download Videos from Facebook

If you’re like us, you’re watching dozens of Facebook videos almost every day – cats, dogs, music videos, news stories… But this content disappears from your timeline fast, and your favorite videos can be really hard to hunt down when you want to see them again or show someone else.

Thankfully, there is a way for you to download your favorite Facebook content to your computer, phone, or tablet! I’ll show you how to use an easy online tool called Kapwing to download Facebook videos for free online. Kapwing is mobile-friendly, safe and easy to use, and won’t make you download any apps. Here’s how to do it in 3 easy steps:

  1. Find Facebook Video URL
  2. Upload the video to Kapwing
  3. Download and share

Step 1: Find the Video on Facebook

Find the video you want to download by browsing Facebook Watch, scrolling through your timeline, reading a Messenger conversation, or looking back in your Favorites folder.

Now that you’ve found the video, you want to Copy the Link to that video:

  • On a computer, click the "..." menu at the top right corner of the video card and click "Copy link."
  • On the Facebook mobile app, click the "Share" button in the bottom of the video card and click "Copy link," the last of the options in the "Share to:" section.

It's not possible to get the link of the video if you're using the Facebook website on your phone. You'll need to install the Facebook app to copy the link of the video on an iPhone, iPad, or Android phone.

When you click "Copy link," the video URL will be copied to your clipboard.

Step 2: Upload the Video to Kapwing

The next step is to import the video into a website you can use to rip the MP4 file off of Facebook. This tutorial uses a Facebook video downloader called Kapwing.

Once you’ve copied the video’s URL, go to and click “Start Editing” Paste the link to upload your video by right-clicking the URL field and selecting “Paste.” Your video will load within a few seconds, (although it could take a little while to upload longer videos). Kapwing will show a status message that it is importing the video from

Once the video loads, you'll see the full video layer in the Studio. Click the play button to watch the video through.

To finish downloading the video onto your computer, phone, or tablet, click the "Export Video" button in the corner of the editor.

If you want to resize, caption, trim, make a meme, or edit the video in any way, use Kapwing's tools to quickly tweak the video. For example, I resized my video, cut the video to my favorite part, and added a text caption above it. Make sure to add a text watermark to attribute the original creator if you plan to re-post the video on social media.

When you click Export, Kapwing will download the video file. This process make take a few moments, depending on the length of the video. Note that Kapwing will not add a watermark as long as you're signed in to the website with a Facebook or Google account.

After a few minutes, Kapwing will process the video file and give you the finalized MP4 to share with your friends, save for offline viewing, or use in your other video projects. Click the "Copy link" button to get a short link to your final video page or embed the video into your website or presentation.
