Apple is constantly updating iPhone cameras and recording capacity, but their video-editing functions lag behind their other capabilities. There is no way to change the speed of a video using the iPhone's native photos app.
In this article, I'm going to show you a way to speed up videos on your iPhone using Kapwing. Use the Change Video Speed Tool here. Kapwing is a website, not an app, so you won't need to download any software. It's quick and simple, so you'll be able to get started immediately.
To speed up the videos you've recorded on your iPhone, you'll need to know just 3 simple steps:
- Upload your video to Kapwing
- Speed up your video
- Publish & download!
Step 1: Upload Your Video to Kapwing
Uploading your content to Kapwing takes just a few seconds. Go to Kapwing.com in your browser and click "Get Started." Or, if you're already logged in, choose "New Project" and "Start with Studio."
Now you're in the Kapwing Studio, where you can use all of Kapwing's editing tools in one place. To upload a video that you recorded on your phone, just click the button that says "Click to Upload." This will let you browse through your camera roll or files to find the video that you want to speed up. Once you select your video, it could take a while to upload to the Studio, depending on the file size.
If you're planning to speed up a video that you found online, or one of your own videos in an online storage site, copy a shareable link to the video and paste it in the Studio's URL field. Most web locations allow you tap twice on the URL and select "Copy." In apps like YouTube, you can find the Share button and choose "Copy Link." In some online storage locations like Google Drive, you'll need to make sure your video's link is shareable by adjusting your sharing settings.
Step 2: Speed Up Your Video
Now that you're in the Kapwing Studio, it only takes a couple clicks to speed up your video!
Find the speed controls: Select the video layer and tap "Edit Layer" from below the video. To speed up the video, tap the "+" button under "Speed." You can change the speed of your video to 1.15x, 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x, 2x, and time-lapse style 4x. This will multiply the original speed by a positive factor, making the output faster.
Scroll down and tap "Done" when you're finished.
Using Kapwing's Studio, you can make slow motion videos or hyperspeed videos by adjusting the speed of the video. Creators can also make other changes to their sped up video:
Step 3: Publish & Download
Once your video has been sped up and edited to perfection, you're ready to publish it! Just tap the red "Publish" button in the upper right-hand corner of the Studio window. Kapwing will automatically start processing your video, which could take up to a few minutes for larger video files.
Once your video is finished processing, you can download the video from the final page or share the URL with your friends. Save the video to your computer or to your camera roll.
iPhone users can also download the Kapwing app to access the videos in their Workspace and save them to their camera roll. If you've created a Project in your Workspace, open the Kapwing mobile app and sign in to see your save projects.
