It’s an incredibly frustrating experience when you have an audio file that you want to use in a project or listening to, and you realize that you can’t play it because it’s the wrong format. Such is the case with M4A files, which always seem to cause trouble when you try to use them.
If you are planning to use a certain audio file, it is your best bet to use that file as an MP3, the most-universally used file types out there. Now, you may be feeling stuck if your file is an M4A and confused as to why there isn’t any built-in method to convert file types on your computer.
I recommend using Kapwing to change your M4A to an MP3. Here's what you can do:
- Upload Your M4A File to Kapwing
- Export File as MP3
- Download, Share, or Store
Step 1: Upload Your M4A File to Kapwing
Head over to Kapwing’s editing studio and you will find the opening page asking you how you want to get started on your project.
We assume that since you are working with an M4A file, that it is stored on your computer. This means that you’re going to want to click on Click to Upload, which will open up a window for you to find your file, select it, and upload it into the editing studio on the website.
Step 2: Export File as MP3
Luckily, the editing part of this process is about as minimal as you can get.
The audio file will be in your timeline at the bottom of your screen and there will be plenty of options for you to choose, including adding video to the music file and turning it into a video. But we don’t need any of that.
What you are looking for is the Export Video button in the top-right corner of the studio. Don’t click on the button itself, though; instead, click on the downward-facing arrow next to it to open a drop-down menu. From this, select Export as MP3.
Step 3: Download, Share, or Store
Your file will be sent to Kapwing’s cloud service for processing, and once it is done being exported as an MP3, you will have a new window pop-up that will let you choose what you want to do with the file.
- Download the file to your computer.
- Head back into the studio for more editing.
- Copy the file.
- Share it on various social media platforms.
Fortunately, the file will also be in your workspace on Kapwing, so should you not do one of these options right now, you can come back later and do the same things from there.
Converting an M4A to MP3 is a very simple process and Kapwing is a great way for you to do it. By converting to MP3, you are really opening more doors for yourself in how you use your audio file. M4A can be far too restricting and MP3 is just much better.
