A custom font walks into a bar. The bartender says, "Hey, why the typeface?"

Alright, now that that's out of my system, let's talk about how to upload and use custom fonts using Kapwing! This is a feature for our Pro users, so make sure to upgrade your account to access this pro perk and many more.

Whether you're a teacher, type designer or bartender, you probably know what a difference the right font can make on a flyer, meme, video, etc. Although there are already dozens of fonts to choose from in the Kapwing Studio, there are thousands in existence and, as a Kapwing Pro user, we've made it easy to upload virtually any font that strikes your fancy. In this tutorial, I'll take you through the 4 easy steps to do just that. Be sure to also check out our video tutorial on YouTube!

  1. Create a New Project in the Kapwing Studio
  2. Add Text and go to Fonts
  3. Download your Custom Font and Upload it
  4. Download and Share your work

1. Create a New Project in the Kapwing Studio

Head over to the Kapwing studio and either upload your content by clicking "Click to upload" or select "Start with a blank canvas." In this example, I'm creating an invitation for a virtual Halloween party, so I'm starting my design from scratch. I resized my canvas by selecting the 16:9 option under "Output Size."

2. Add Text and go to Fonts

The next step is to add text to your project. You'll find the "Text" button in the upper left corner of the studio. Click it, and a text box will be added to your canvas. Next, click on the dropdown under "Font," which is located in the style toolbar to the right of your canvas.

Click the first option, "+ More Fonts," and a box will appear with all of the font options that come with the Kapwing Studio plus the option to upload a custom font.

3. Download your Custom Font and Upload it

Here comes the fun part — it's time to select your custom font! We recommend finding one on Google Fonts. Here, you can download font families. An example of a font family is Times, and Times New Roman is a font within that family. Make sense?

I've picked a rather spooky font for my virtual Halloween party invitation called "Creepster."

Once you've selected and downloaded your desired font family, upload it to the Kapwing Studio by dragging the .ttf or .otf file to the Upload Font box. Your custom font will appear, and the Kapwing Studio will save it here for future uses.

Next, click on the name of your custom font and the text on your canvas will automatically be transformed. Continue adding text in your custom font by clicking "Text." To add new custom fonts, repeat Step 3.

4. Download and Share your work

When your content is ready to go, click "Export Image" (or "Export Video") and your work will be ready to Download, Share and Embed.
