IGTV enables publishers to easily upload videos from a desktop computer. Since IGTV is a platform for longer videos (you can post videos from 15 seconds to 10 minutes long). As a result, larger files, it’s often easier to edit from your computer.
In this article, I'll explain how to upload an IGTV video from your desktop computer. Just navigate to the Instagram website in your browser and upload the video file directly.
How to Upload Your Video
If you edit a video from desktop, you can upload it directly to IGTV rather than needing to send the file to your phone and uploading it to the native app. Here’s how to upload from desktop in 2 easy steps:
- Go to Instagram.com on your desktop computer
- Click to your profile and the "IGTV" tab
- Upload your video
- It’s that easy!
Step 1: Go to Instagram.com on your desktop
Open Instagram’s web client and sign in the account you want to publish an IGTV video to. Then, click on the IGTV tab underneath your Stories.
Step 2: Upload your video
Click the Upload button and Drag/Drop your video file into the area on the left. You can then fill out your Cover frame, Title, and Description. Click “Post” to add it to your IGTV channel.
If your video is too long, you can use a Trimmer to shorten it; if it’s too short, you can loop it multiple times to make it pass the 15 second minimum. Read more about changing the timing of your video. IGTV requires a 9:16 video, so make sure you resize your video if it’s not the right aspect ratio.
If your video meets the IGTV requirements, you can post it directly. If you’re looking for a video editor, try Kapwing’s Studio. The video requirements include:
- 9:16 Aspect Ratio
- Between 15 seconds and 10 minutes (although verified accounts can post up to an hour)
- Under 650 MB
If you filmed your video in portrait mode it should already be the correct size. If not, you can resize your video to the IGTV 9:16 aspect ratio by uploading it to Kapwing’s Video Resizer tool.
