Lost among the social media juggernauts is Tumblr, a site dedicated to letting you create and share pictures, GIFs, memes, and more. For creators on Tumblr, it’s important to show who you are and let others know that you are the mind behind the content they are enjoying. One such way to do this is to use a profile picture, just as you would with any other social media platform.
Luckily, the process of creating a Tumblr profile picture is not a difficult one and Kapwing has a tool that can help you get it ready, finished, and out on the internet.
Step 1. Head to Kapwing’s Profile Picture Maker
Step 2. Upload Your Picture
Step 3. Adjust the Dimensions of Your Picture
Step 4. Export Picture to Workspace
Step 5: Uploading Picture to Tumblr
Step One: Head to Kapwing’s Profile Picture Maker
If you head to the Kapwing Profile Picture Maker tool, you will see that you have just one option to choose from: Make It.
As you will see in the tool’s description, this tool is designed to help you perfect your profile picture for just about any social media platform out there. From Facebook to Twitter, and everything in between.
When you’re ready, click on the big Make It button and head into the studio.
Step Two: Upload Your Picture
Once you are in the studio, you will see a Replace button in the center of your screen. You need to click on this to start the uploading process of your image.
Clicking on Replace will bring up a menu for how you want to upload a picture. The first option is to upload it directly from your computer. If you have the file saved to your hard drive, you can find it in the menu and Kapwing will upload it directly into the studio.
The second option is to paste an image’s URL into the search bar at the bottom. If you want to find an image’s URL, simply right-click it and select Copy Image Link from the menu.
Then all you need to do is paste this into the URL bar on Kapwing, and the picture will appear in the studio for you.
Step Three: Adjust the Dimensions of Your Image
Now it’s time to get the dimensions of your picture right, which can be done by looking to the right of the image in the studio.
Here, you will see an area to adjust the image’s Output Size, along with a few presets that you can choose from. For Tumblr, we want to click on Custom Size, which will bring up a window where we can enter our own customized values for Height and Width.
The recommended dimensions for a profile picture on Tumblr is 128x128, also known as a 1:1 ratio. Enter these values into both boxes and click Done. You may not notice an immediate change to the picture in the studio, but the change has been made and will be seen once you export the image.
Step Four: Export Picture to Workspace
Speaking of which, it’s now time to do just that.
In order to export your image, just click on Export Image in the upper-right corner of the screen and the image will be sent to Kapwing’s cloud services for processing and export.
A new page will come up that gives you options on what you want to do with the newly-created image:
- You can download it to your computer to save.
- You can head back into the studio to edit it.
- Make a Copy will duplicate it for you.
- You can choose various platforms to share it to.
- You can start a brand new project of whatever you want.
You will likely want to download the profile picture to take it over to Tumblr and upload for your profile picture.
The image will also appear in your workspace on Kapwing, where you can access it and do all of these options at a later time, including renaming the image.
Step Five: Upload Picture to Tumblr
Now it's time to put your new profile picture to use.
Head over to Tumblr and get to your dashboard on the site. In the upper-right corner of your screen, you will see the icon for your profile that looks like the head and shoulders of a person.
Click this and a drop-down menu will open, on which you will scroll down to Edit Appearance to click on.
This will bring up your profile and you will see another Edit Appearance button f0r you to click on. This will bring up a new screen where you will see a pencil icon which will allow you to edit your avatar (Tumblr's name for a profile picture).
This will open up a small menu that will give you the option to Choose a Photo. Clicking on this will let you upload the picture you made on Kapwing and have it on your profile.
Making a profile picture for Tumblr is that easy. Just follow these steps anytime you want to make a new profile picture for Tumblr, or any social media platform.
