A lot – a whole lot – of internet traffic goes to viewing memes. Millions of people spend so many hours online doing nothing but browsing through and curating their meme feeds on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Reddit, and Discord. But what else can you do with the memes you find or make?

The only screen that you see more often than social media feeds is your wallpaper. Lockscreens, screensavers, and desktops occupy a large portion of our passive attention. Here's how to make your favorite memes greet you whenever you pick up your phone or open your computer:

  1. Find a meme or make one with a template
  2. Resize it for your wallpaper
  3. Download & set as wallpaper

Step 1: Find a meme or make one with a template

If you know what meme you want to use as your wallpaper image, copy the link to it. Or, if it's on Facebook, Twitter, or Reddit, you download it to your device directly by right-clicking or long-pressing on the image.

If you want to make your own meme to use as your wallpaper, try using a Kapwing Meme Template – we have nearly a thousand to choose from! When you click "Make It," you'll go to the Kapwing Studio, where you can add, replace, and edit any part of the meme.

Step 2: Resize it for your wallpaper

Once you've modified the meme template with our own text or image, you need to make sure its dimensions are correct for the screen you're using. If you want to use it as a wallpaper for your laptop, for example, you should use an aspect ratio of 2048x1152, 2560x1440, or 1920x1080, depending on the device.

And if you want to make a lockscreen or wallpaper for your phone, you should probably resize your project to a 9:16 aspect ratio. But if you're using an iPhone 10 or 11, you'll need a taller meme – about 9:19.5, instead. If this is too tall for your meme to look good, you can always just add some padding to the top & bottom of the picture.

Step 3: Download & set as wallpaper

When your meme is wallpaper-ready, click "Publish" in the upper right corner of the screen – in just a second or two, it should be ready to download. Here, you can also log in using your Facebook or Google account to remove the Kapwing watermark for free, if you haven't done so already. If you're using an iOS device to download a picture, you might need to use the Kapwing mobile app from the App Store. The app doesn’t require any login – it’s only meant to help you download your content!

With your wallpaper meme saved to your device, head over to your Settings app and find your wallpaper options – on a computer, it should be called something like "Desktop & Screensaver," and on a phone, it might just say "Wallpaper." The meme you saved should be the most recent thing in your camera roll or downloads folder – select it and set it as your wallpaper!
