GIFs (whether you pronounce it GIFs or GIFs) are animated images that bring joy to all that come upon them. But, sadly, you can’t post a GIF to Instagram. Just look at this cute GIF of a dog dressed as an astronaut!
Unfortunately, while Instagram and Snapchat do allow you to use GIFs as stickers on Stories, they do not allow you to post your own GIFS. Luckily there is a workaround for this problem! Follow these steps to convert your GIF to a video so you can upload it to Instagram and Snapchat.
Step 1: Pick a GIF
Choose a GIF you would like to post, whether you have saved it a long time ago or you just found it on GIPHY. I picked this adorable dog who is ready to face the perils of space.
Step 2: Upload your GIF
Upload your GIF to the Kapwing meme maker.
If your GIF is saved to your computer, drag and drop it into the dashed box. If you have a link to your GIF, copy and paste that link. Your GIF is now ready to convert to video.
Add some extra flare by using Kapwing’s tools to add text. Resize your GIF to a 1:1 ratio for Instagram or a 16:9 ratio for Instagram Story and Snapchat. Choose whether you want your GIF to crop or fit and, if you are making the GIF fit, choose a background color. Then click “Done” in the top right corner.
Step 3: Download your video
Your video is now ready to download and post to Snapchat or Instagram or both! Note that Instagram videos must be at least three seconds long, so you’ll need to loop your GIF video if it’s not long enough. Otherwise, just click “Download” to save it directly to your computer or Android. If you have an iPhone you can follow these steps to download for iOS.
