MP3 files are the standard audio file format. If you have a YouTube video with audio you love, you might want to extract the soundtrack and make the YouTube video into an MP3. With an MP3 file, you can listen to a song offline or in the background or use the music in your own videos.

Luckily, there’s a free, trustworthy website called Kapwing that helps you make YouTube videos into MP3s online. There are no watermarks or ads. Just paste the URL to the YouTube video you want to convert and download the MP3. Kapwing works on iPhones, Macs, Windows, Android, Chromebooks, and any other internet connected device, and you don’t have to download any software or register an account to use it.

In this article, I’ll show you how to use Kapwing’s Convert Video tool to make a YouTube video into an MP3. This tutorial has three steps:

  1. Import Video From YouTube
  2. Choose MP3 File Format
  3. Create and Download

Step 1: Import Video from YouTube

The first step is to import the YouTube video that you want to get the MP3 from. From the YouTube video, copy the URL in your browser bar. Then, go to Kapwing’s home page and find the Convert Video tool on the Products Page. Then, you can paste the URL of the YouTube video you copied to import the video directly into your editor.

After your video loads, you can see it playing in the Convert Editor. In my example, I pasted the link to a YouTube video with the sound effect from Super Smash Brothers.

Step 2: Choose “MP3” File Format

From the options in the left hand panel, you can see that Kapwing can convert your MP4 into a GIF, JPG, or audio file. Choose the “MP3” option – the second button – from the menu.

You can also “Trim” your Youtube video, if you just want to make a section of it into an MP3. Click the “Trim video” button then use the sliders to adjust the start and end time of the MP3.

Step 3: Create and Download

Once the audio sounds right, click “CREATE” to process your video as an MP3. Kapwing will handle your video on cloud servers for a few seconds, then give you the MP3 file to download.

And viola! The audio file will appear in your browser. You can share the URL with your friends or download the MP3 file onto your device. That’s all you need to know to convert your YouTube videos into MP3 files.

I hope this tutorial helps you save the soundtrack of your favorite YouTube videos! Creators can also use this technique to convert any MP4 to an MP3 file. Once you have the MP3, you can combine the audio with another video, use it to produce your own music, publish it as a podcast, listen to it on your phone, or share it with your friends.
