Adding a vignette creates a black blur around the edges of an image, GIF, or video frame. This post will show you how to make a video vignette using a free, online tool to increase your artistic flare! Kapwing is the first website where users can create a video vignette from their phone or computer without needing to install any software.
Why Make a Video Vignette?
Vignettes draw viewers in by funneling attention to a central point. It also mimics the vintage effect of old cameras and aged film. You might add vignette to increase focus on an interview subject with a bit more warmth and intimacy. Vignette can also create drama, mystery or a romantic sentimentality. Photographers and videographers use vignette to add an artistic touch.
How to make Video Vignette
Step 1: Go to Kapwing’s Filter Tool
Kapwing’s Filters tool is free to use and supports images, GIFs and video clips. It works on both phone and computers, so you can add a vignette on any device.
Step 2: Upload your Video
Click the purple button to upload your video from your camera roll or computer. You can also import a video from YouTube, Google Drive, Giphy, Vimeo, or other websites by pasting the URL of the video.
Step 3: Adjust Vignette
Once your video preview loads, click on the “Adjust” tab in the editing panel and find the Vignette tool. Move the slider to the right to increase the vignette effect and to the left to decrease it. You can always press “reset” to go back to the original video. Click "CREATE" once you’ve decided on the effect.
Step 4: Download and Share
After you "CREATE" your project, Kapwing will processes the video or image and add the vignette directly into the media.
After your video is finished, you can download it and share directly to Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or elsewhere. If it's your first time using Kapwing, you'll need to sign in to remove the watermark.
Creators can also share to their project directly, embed it into their website, or click "Edit" to make other adjustments. Click "Edit in Studio" for more editing tools like text layers, sizing/cropping, adding music, and more.
With Kapwing, it takes about three clicks to add vignette to your video. You can adjust the width of your vignette to make it more or less dramatic and noticeable.
