What the Topo Gigio means
In Argentina, cupping your hands behind your ears is called the Topo Gigio, after the Italian puppet mouse with the big ears. In football it's a way of answering critics. Juan Román Riquelme made it famous in 2001, Lionel Messi used it at the 2022 World Cup, and Enzo Fernandez brought it back after his 85th-minute equalizer against England in the 2026 World Cup semifinal, which Argentina won 2-1.
