AI Dubbing

We continued to invest in making our AI Video Dubbing technology faster, higher quality, and easier to use. In August, we added a new transcription vendor, Scribe by ElevenLabs, for select languages. We also added several new features in response to user feedback and quality evaluations.

Download as TXT or VTT

Kapwing enables localization teams to download .TXT and .VTT versions of translated videos, including speaker labels. Now, you can export the translated transcription or the translated caption files to put in a team folder, TMS, or on social media.

Use the download button in the Translate tab to export the file.

Design Improvements for the Translate Tab

In the Kapwing translate tab, there is now a "Mute" button for both the original and target language so that users can listen to the original audio while checking the translation quality, hear how timing compares, and silence layers in bulk.

We also added a "Regenerate" button to make it easier to correct buggy pronunciation or accent issues that result from generative hallucinations.

The speaker labels in Kapwing's Translate tab are easier to change and adjust. This functionality improves several use cases:

  • Error correction - Users can reassign a segment to a different speaker, if it was incorrectly labeled, making it easier to match the original audio. Kapwing is the best translation vendor for multi-speaker videos like ads or interviews.
  • Changing Voices – On review, it's now easy to adjust the voice that you selected for a certain speaker using the microphone icon. Experiment with a voice clone or an option from the stock speaker library.
  • Renaming - Keep track of which speaker is which by giving it a name inline. Use the pencil icon to edit the name.

This change also means that the Translate tab is more consistent with the Subtitles interface, so it should be familiar to Kapwing Business users.

More Languages

In August, we added support for Urdu and Pakistani TTS. Kapwing's engineering team is able to add new languages for Enterprise customers on request.

Dubbing Survey

Users can upvote and downvote the quality of an AI dub on Kapwing, giving our team more feedback to continue improving the pipeline. This survey appears in the Translate tab.

Generative AI: New Models for Image and Video Generation

Now, there are tabs for Images, Video Clips, and Video Projects within the AI Assistant. Kapwing Creators can choose which model they want to use: Seedream 3 or Pika. With the other configuration options, define an aspect ratio and duration for a generated asset. Users can also upload an image to use as a start frame and are able to animate an image into a video.

All generated assets load below the prompt input box next to their original prompt.

Cancel an Export

Users can cancel an export. This long-requested feature means that you do not need to wait for past exports to finish if they're not needed, reducing overall resource utilization.

  • More robust permissions handling to ensure that non-admins do not delete key shared assets from brand kit
  • Support for renaming saved text styles
  • Sunset the EDU plan, which provided free Kapwing Pro subscriptions for teachers and students, due to the escalating cost of the servie.
