What is stress?

Stress developed as a means of survival. When our body perceives a threat it automatically activates a “fight-or-flight” reaction to protect us. This was crucial to our evolutionary success but has become a burden in modern times, especially when the “threat” is an upcoming deadline or a social situation. Stress causes low energy, headaches, nausea, physical pain, and more frustrating symptoms.

But hey, relax.

April is Stress Awareness Month, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be conscious of the everyday stressors in our lives and actively work to combat them. Exercise, journaling, vitamins, social support, laughter, a calendar, mindfulness, soothing music, gardening, deep breathing, time with pets, and more positive, intentional pursuits can all help reduce stress. In this article I’ll show you how you can make a relaxing destress video yourself in 3 easy steps:

  1. Pick a beautiful visual
  2. Add soothing music
  3. Create and watch!

Step 1: Pick a beautiful video or images

Choose a video you like that you’ve filmed yourself or found online. Scenes of nature are particularly good for this. We get so caught up in our urban environment and with our digital lives, that getting back to nature has a de-stressing effect on us.

This video could be a timelapse of clouds, a shot of waves breaking on the ocean, or a sweeping drone shot of forest.

Upload your video directly from your device or copy and paste the link to Kapwing’s Studio.

Mute your video by clicking it and clicking mute in the bottom panel. If you need to, trim the video so it’s just the most relaxing part. You can also create a video from GIFs.

Step 2: Add soothing music

Choose your favorite relaxing song and add it to your video using Kapwing’s add audio tool in the bottom panel. Download music from songs you love on Youtube or, if you’re copyright conscious, use Youtube’s free music library. Using the audio tool, you can add audio from an MP3 or an MP4.

Again, trim your music to the most relaxing part!

Step 3: Create and watch!

When you’re happy with your relax video, click Publish to create your video and process it as an MP4. Kapwing will handle your file for a few moments, then export your final piece.
